It is time to beat the children

A group of little idiots attacked a man in D.C.'s L'Enfant Plaza Metro station, and a number of their little idiot friends got video of the attack on their phones.

Not a single person helped the man, who was struck multiple times, without provocation, by several teenagers. He sustained injuries including contusions and lacerations. One of the teenagers, who is probably proud that she does not read, threw his book too near the third rail for it to be rescued.

Laura, please tell your brother he has my great sympathy. I'm sorry none of the good people of DC (and we know there are many) were on that subway platform. And may the Wheel take care of those teenagers, if the Metro Police are unable to.

It's the cancerous social meme of 'Not my fault, not my problem'. Heck, it's hard enough for people nowadays to to even take responsibility for their own actions. Now you want them to go help a total stranger. Unlikely to happen in Washington DC, the capitol of Screw you, Me First.

My wife screams at me every time I get involved in something that 'isn't any of my business.' Things can escalate, and I see her point.

That said, I always tend to butt in.

But I will say, it would suck to get stabbed for standing up for a complete stranger.

You're a good guy, Stego. (But this wouldn't even have called for charging in, fists flailing. All anyone had to do was to tell the transit police what was going on. They just couldn't be bothered.)

All it would have taken would have been one--just one!--of the heartless bitches and bastards standing around filming the attack with their cellphones to (a) turn their videos/pictures over to the police, or (b) actually call for help. But no. They stood around and mocked my brother's pain. And for that, I hate them.
