Today was one of those days when you don't even have time to go to the store and buy junkfood for lunch, so it's great that one of your meetings actually offered lunch, and that half a tuna wrap saw me through to 9:30 tonight, when Mike and I grabbed burgers at Fuddruckers for dinner.
The good:
  • Seeing a graduate from 20 years ago; seeing a graduate from 10 years ago; seeing a graduate from 4 years ago. All of them gave me hugs; all are doing well. I had to miss their panel discussion to go to a meeting.

  • Having clarifications on FERPA exlained at a meeting.

  • Dinner with my husband (even if it's pretty late).

    The bad:
  • I really don't like most meetings. Any day when I have three meetings and three classes scheduled is likely to be...dicey.

  • My head went in and out of painfulness...all day. Didn't dare take enough of any medication to be completely effective.

    The ugly:
  • One of my fall 2008 classes is already not only full but has a waiting list that is more than 50% of the original class size.

  • Learning that slash and burn can be a very effective email strategy.
  • Hope you've had a merry day!

The BBC reports that coffee can help keep your brain healthy.
Coffee may cut the risk of dementia by blocking the damage cholesterol can inflict on the body, research suggests.

The drink has already been linked to a lower risk of Alzheimer's Disease, and a study by a US team for the Journal of Neuroinflammation may explain why.

A vital barrier between the brain and the main blood supply of rabbits fed a fat-rich diet was protected in those given a caffeine supplement.
Hah! I just wish I could have more than a cup or so a day...but at least I get the brain benefit this way.

Um, I just don't think this is what you think it was. Just somehow.

A finalist for the Miss England beauty contest is not apologetic for her un-Twiggy-like figure.
17-year-old Chloe Marshall has just made history as "the first size 16 beauty queen to reach the finals of the Miss England contest," according to The Daily Mail.

She weighs 176 pounds, and she's proud to pose. "I want to show it's possible to be beautiful and not a standard size zero," Marshall tells reporters. She competed against a bevy of thinner women, but her judges in Surrey ultimately chose Chloe as the contestant with the most beauty.
    Bravo, Chloe.
