The scum of F-1
Apr. 5th, 2009 09:50 amI'll admit I've never been a McLaren fan. Ferrari has been my team since I knew what race cars were -- just as it was my father's team and my mother's team. So when McLaren-Mercedes were proven to have engaged in industrial espionage against Ferrari in 2007, I was as angry as anyone in Rome. And I was damned pleased when FIA & the World Motor Sport Council fined McLaren-Mercedes $100 million and disqualified them from the constructor's championship that year.
And now, McLaren is up to its old tricks: ordering driver Lewis Hamilton to lie to race stewards about details of his being overtaken under yellow in the closing laps of last week's Australian Grand Prix. Hamilton is apparently angry that he was led that way, and McLaren-Mercedes and he have been stripped of points and position for the race.
I'd have a lot more sympathy for Hamilton, but he agreed with the misleading information (in front of the stewards), and after 2007 he should know that McLaren-Mercedes are scum.
(We're watching the Malaysian race right now, on tape delay, because we're just not dedicated enough to have watched it live at 5 a.m.)
