The BBC reports on a Microsoft study of online traffic, which claims that spam far outstrips legitimate electronic mail.
More than 97% of all e-mails sent over the net are unwanted, according to a Microsoft security report.

The e-mails are dominated by spam adverts for drugs, and general product pitches and often have malicious attachments.

The report found that the global ratio of infected machines was 8.6 for every 1,000 uninfected machines.
What should we do to spammers? As I noted recently on someone else's blog, "It should be marginally ghastly, and it should make the spammer into a hideous example..."

A group of fans in Austin, Texas Monday night gathered to watch a screening of the Trek film Wrath of Khan and a 10-minute sneak-peek of the new Trek film (called, not originally, Star Trek). That's not what they got. Leonard Nimoy showed them more than they'd bargained for. Nobody seemed to be at all disappointed.

The Associated Press reports that a man in Port St. Lucie, Florida, ran naked down the street after telling police officers he was an illegal immigrant -- so they would send him back to Mexico.

Last night, I thought my new "word," snarkolicious, had to be unique; today Google said this bit of lexical ingenuity has two spellings: mine, and snarkylicious.

Tomorrow, my new invention goes to the patent office: the wheel.

Hot new video game consists entirely of shooting people point-blank in the face. The video at this link is wonderful, but the very last sentence (a news "headline") is what had me snorting out loud.

Stefan Benchoam used a little ingenuity and some inexpensive red vinyl stickers to jazz up the far-too-ubiquitous posters and billboards in his town.

Lastweek, I reported on Improv Everywhere's "Best Funeral Ever" hoax for April Fools' Day.

Here's the video. )

This week, the outtakes are available. They are very funny, but I see why they were clipped as being just a bit too far over the top to be believable.

The first outtake video is tucked back here; more at the link. )

One of the best bits (see the outtakes link) is the video of a television station that reported the prank as serious....
