This photo from There I Fixed It *should* be a picture of a plumber's headstone, just to maximize the amusement value:

This is just one of the many beautiful shots at the Big Picture showing world-wide celebrations ushering in the New Year. (Also included are photos of the various idiots who have never heard of hypothermia hearty souls diving into northern waters.)

The Independent writes,
A mere 3cm of snow brought swathes of the country to a standstill yesterday, with roads left ungritted, planes grounded and public transport cancelled.
With about 1.2" of snow and temperatures of -10°C (14°F), the country of Ireland is experiencing a national crisis.

For us in Boston (or most northern U.S. cities), 1.2" of snow isn't even noticeable (well, unless it's May or something)...but we're also pretty used to handling it, and we have the equipment.

Ireland wouldn't deal very well with the 13" (33 cm) we've had this weekend...but for us, it's not so much of an annoyance since it comes on a weekend.

Okay, I haven't lived in my native state in 25 years...and granted, we do not go through 288 bottles of wine in a year*...but a new law in Ohio makes it illegal for Ohioans to buy more than 288 bottles (or 24 cases) of wine per household.

Time for some of y'all to make nice with a teatotaling friend.

*With the aid of 33 other people, we could not polish off more than 5 bottles of champagne on New Year's Eve. Pathetic. We have 7 bottles left (not counting a really good bottle in the fridge downstairs)...and we made one person take home a really good bottle that we could not, in conscience, keep.
