Sarah Palin: "We've gotta stand with our North Korean allies."

She is stupid. She knows nothing about the world. She is sly and canny and good at picking out an enemy for others to hate. But she cannot handle the hot seat. She will only be interviewed by people who say "poor Sarah had a widdle slip of the tongue" when she claims North Korea is our ally.

She didn't even have the nerve, the integrity, and the guts to serve a full term as the governor of one of the least populous states in the union. People were being mean to her, so she quit.

If she becomes president of the United States, the world is totally farked, not just this country.

My department has nearly 900 majoring students, all of whom have to take three classes in common (and then 9 others for their respective majors). I'm teaching one of those classes this semester, using a text book that has worked all right for a year or so.

The book isn't bad, but it's quite similar to another text I'd previously used. The next time I teach the course, I'm going back to the earlier text.

Why?

Because one of my colleagues told me this week that the primary author of the text was shooting off his mouth in public venues, criticizing and mocking our department. He teaches at another institution in our fair city - one I have never bad-mouthed. On the contrary, I've actively encouraged prospective graduate students to check out what this institution has to offer, because I believe graduate school can be a very rewarding experience if the student has chosen the program that best suits him/her. (And that might not always be our program.)

I still will not speak ill of the institution, but it will be a pleasure to drop the author's book. Further, I don't know of anyone in the department who plans, after this, to continue using the text. Perhaps 240 books a year isn't really much of a problem in the royalty department, but it surely will make us feel good.
