Well, that's yer problem, right there...
Jun. 9th, 2012 08:59 pmOne of the most important rules anyone should learn when they first begin to live on their own is:
And still, by the time we got to the grocery store, we were peckish.
In our defense, the trip to the grocery store took about an hour. We had a grocery list of 9 items, but we also had time and curiosity, so we went to Northborough, Massachusetts to the new Wegmans grocery store. This is a trip of 50.6 miles from our house...each way. (And this is Massachusetts, not Wyoming, where such a jaunt would be considered the norm.)
There was much rejoicing amongst Boston-area foodies when this store opened (because our grocery stores really suck here), and it is clearly worth the drive. Well, once, anyway...but after that, mostly for special occasions, parties, or visits from out of town friends. (If our friend
smofbabe comes to visit, it's a perfect grocery store...there is a vast array of good Kosher foods...including Kosher meats, deli, etc.)
We bought the 9 items that were on my list...and a bit more. We have never spent this much on a grocery run when we weren't having a party or guests.
OTOH, dinner tonight included fresh cod, broiled and finished with lemon-dill butter, freshly made (by me) tabouli (with parsley, mint, and lots of fresh tomato), and corn on the cob. And there are fresh (gorgeous) raspberries to pair with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
Dear Wegmans: It won't upset us in the least if you'd like to put one of your stores closer in...say on the north shore of Boston. But we're not shopping in your store when we're hungry again.
Thou shalt not grocery shop when hungry. We are 54 years old (we being me and Mike, not the royal or editorial). We know this rule.
