Protecting the most vulnerable

Some of the people most vulnerable to false claims of child abuse or sexual misconduct are teachers. This woman in Britain watched helplessly as a vindictive colleague destroyed her career.

It is so easy, sometimes, for someone to make up stories and create a witch hunt. Has the history of the Salem witch trials taught us nothing?

As many an innocent man or woman have said after being metaphorically crucified in the news media over false allegations. 'Now that my innocence has been proven in open court. How do I restore my good reputation and destroyed career?'


Unfortunately, the penalties for making false reports of crime, and perjury are relatively minor, and proving them is really difficult.

When I was a boy scout leader - and a bachelor which is rare in this country, even if common in the rest of the world - I was always mindful that the BSA's youth protection guidelines did as much to protect me from false claims as it did to protect youths from predators in scout uniforms and the BSA, local council and sponsoring organizations from both.
