I knew a woman named Katrina...
Aug. 31st, 2005 11:27 am...she was a student of mine, originally a refugee from Poland, she emigrated at the age of 12 or so, but by the time she was in college, her English was flawless, with a soft, gentle sound like rain on leaves.
It's hard to think of her, now, when I hear the name.
Nobody's saying much about the death toll; I think we all know it will be at least in the four figures. But as the Governor of Louisiana said, they're not counting bodies right now. They're concentrating on saving the living.
Here's the photo from NOLA that troubled me the most. It's probably the very film noir look about it. Metropolis gone mad.
