...a UK woman has given birth to "triplets" -- but she didn't do it all in one womb. Sez the BBC online:
A UK woman with two wombs is believed to be the first in the world with the condition to give birth to triplets.

Hannah Kersey, 23, from Northam in Devon, had identical twins Ruby and Tilly, who were born from one womb, Grace, who was born from the other.
Grace will probably insist on her own bedroom, too.

The odds of triplets being born in this fashion, from two wombs, are 25 million to one, notes the article.

(The two-womb thing apparently affects 1 in 1,000 women in the U.K.)

My first reaction on reading this story at the BBC online was: Send him to Iran.
British historian David Irving is being expelled from Austria and returning to the UK after his early release from prison for denying the Holocaust.

He has been banned from returning to Austria and will be escorted to Vienna's airport by police.
Granted, Irving claims that his views of the Holocaust have changed. And granted, throwing him in jail was probably someone's bright idea of how to make the controversial law an international cause celebre.

As a First Amendment-ista, I find myself quite conflicted about this case. Tossing someone in prison because they wrote something you don't like just really peeves me. But defending everyone's rights equally often means that we defend those we despise.

That doesn't mean I have to like their opinion. But there's that line, so frequently misattributed to Voltaire or Jefferson:
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
If it's not a liberty for all, it's not a liberty.

(Nonetheless, I still have the same hair-triggered rage when hearing Holocaust deniers...rage I control. Barely.)

During the presidential election campaign of Michael Dukakis, a local Boston comedian claimed that "Dukakis thinks 'foreign relations' means 'area code 413.'"

But it doesn't look like governor-elect Duval Patrick is going to endear himself to residents of 413dia, as he indicated that he opposes the Mass Turnpike toll removal.

According to the Boston Globe online, Patrick opposes the loss of the $114 million in revenue generated by tolls from 128 (Boston's inner beltway-ish highway) through Springfield, Mass.

I'll confess to finding the idea that the Massachusetts state coffers would have to fork over the money to make payments on the Pike bonds distressing.

On the other hand, if the Turnpike Authority would just bag the FastLane discounts on the tunnels, we'd get $12.2 million of that back.

On the other other hand, I still rather loathe the Turnpike Authority on general principles.

Oh, dissonance!

This is from the same site that the aliens and their spaceship I posted a bit ago came from. Do not attempt a knitting-needle duel with this woman.

*kicks rock*

Mom would prolly make it for Grace or Gina, who just wouldn't appreciate it as much as I would. (Of course, they haven't hit 6, yet...much less 49.)
