By the time I got up this morning, there were a dozen messages from people who had seen my posting to Craig's List. I hated to leave them all hanging until this morning, but I was kind of asleep at the time. :-) That's the one down side to posting in a Nevada forum just at bedtime your time...they have to wait 'til I've had coffee before I see their message.

Here's hoping the lady who got the tickets enjoys the show. Her note was very kind, and she even used the phrase "pay it forward."

In all of this travel mess, there were some bright spots. Linda at Continental Airlines spent more than an hour doing what she could to make things right for us, and we were very happy with her service. She was hoarse from talking so much -- these storms really take a toll on the reservations people. She kept apologizing for delays, but since we were safe, at home, warm, with hot drinks...and didn't have to do this all from the airport at 5 or 6 a.m., we weren't complaining.

The folks at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas understood that we weren't able to make our reservation. Even though there was a 72-hour cancellation clause, they let Mike cancel without penalty, saving us from having to pay for a room we couldn't use.

And the delightful woman at the Las Vegas Hilton Box Office told me I could change the name on our show tickets, then this morning let me transfer them, ensuring that someone would have some fun tomorrow night. In this economy, it feels really good to be able to do something nice for a stranger. (The lady who got the tickets said if we're in Las Vegas again sometime, to get in touch. She can get us tickets to one of the smaller shows. That was very kind.)

Of course we're not happy about not getting to Las Vegas. But there are so many ways we could have been much more miserable, that I'm counting this all as blessings. :-)

Very, very white.

Since the stuff started on Friday, we've gotten 19" of it.

Oh, joy.

Here's a shot out of the back door. There are a couple of other shots with that one at Flickr, and they show (1) how much white stuff is out there (about 20" now), and (2) what the IR camera does to some of the whiteness and greyness.

I'll be interested to see how sunlight changes the IR elements. But that won't be until we have sunlight. :-)

In order to meet the demand for the shoe model hurled at the U.S. president, the Istanbul-based company that manufactures the shoe plans to hire 100 new employees to get the orders filled.

My question: why couldn't that reporter have thrown a GM product?

Yes, we have snow. Yes, it's white and (right now) very deep.

But this is not likely to happen to, say, Minneapolis.

Just sayin'.

Notice I said "Minneapolis": We're expecting 50 mph wind gusts *here* (Boston's north shore) tonight. *snort* Blow, wind, blow!

There have always been lots of Italian restaurants in Cleveland, along with fish and seafood and steak. And these days, based on the Zagat listings, there are a bunch of interesting new American restaurants, too.

But I remember more Eastern European restaurants...Hungarian, German, and Polish. *sigh*

...seasonal. It has been quite some time since I changed the look of this LiveJornal. :-)

It's kind of cool to watch the little planes. Here's Boston's. But the live reports from JFK and O'Hare are much more jumpin'. (Especially since if you go out far enough from JFK, you see all of the LaGuardia and Newark traffic, too.)

Fascinating.
