Elegant sleepwear is not dead
Feb. 3rd, 2012 10:42 pmOnce upon a time, there was a line of women's nightgowns and peignoirs called "Olga." The gowns were beautiful, graceful, and affordable. They made the wearer feel sexy as hell, but in a 1940s Nick and Nora (well, really just Nora) sexy. The company's eponymous founder, Olga Estereszek sold her company in the mid 80s, and she passed away in 1989. And gone, alas, were the great gowns that women loved. (There is still an Olga lingerie line...but no more gowns.)
My sister Susan found a product on Amazon in the Olga style, and she pointed me to it earlier this week. (She sent me a link for the gown only, but I succumbed to the set.) The product had good reviews, so I figured I'd give it a whirl.
It's on me now, and let me tell you - it comes damned close to the lovely, sensual evening wear Olga Estereszek created for 30 years. I'm writing this particularly for my friends who are larger women: although Olga designed gowns that would look good on all women, she did not ignore the larger sizes. She believed all women should feel this good.
No, the offering company of this near-Olga (Shadowline Silhouette is the brand name) is not paying me for this or providing product (I wish!). And yes, if you fit one of their sizes, you'll probably like the way it looks on you, too. (The Amazon photos don't really do the thing justice, because the nightgown is a bit too large on the model. The bodice should be form-fitting; the skirt should sweep.)
Aha! An Edit! You can also get these gowns directly from the company, and they offer a full range of sizes there.
