About women who lift weights...

They are strong. They are ripped. They are beautiful examples of the diversity of the human form. And I sure want them on my evolutionary team.

In particular, I think British lifter Zoe Smith is a damned smart cookie who does a brilliant job of telling her detractors to get stuffed.

Bravo to her, and to all of the athletes who ignore some idiots' standards of appearance or behavior while they chase their goals.

Acknowledging the march o' time

What first made you realize you were going to have to acknowledge being a "grown up"?

Everybody has a different benchmark, of course. I understood when I bought a refrigerator, in 1987...and I had to acknowledge that grad school was far behind me. I owned a major home appliance.

What was your adulthood epiphany?

Mayor of London stuck on a wire

Props to London Mayor Boris Johnson for celebrating the first gold medal taken by the GB team in style, waving flags and zipping along on a wire.

However, as he noted, one should probably test the zip wire before putting the mayor on it.
