Boy, this is hard to write
Sep. 7th, 2012 10:44 pmI detest the Baltimore Ravens NFL team. As a Cleveland native, there're some pretty compelling reasons for this loathing. And the Minnesota Vikings have done little to show themselves a team filled with ethical, law-abiding citizens, so they haven't been really a fave, either.
And now I find myself cheering for players from each team.
Minnesota's Chris Kluwe wrote a letter in support of Baltimore Ravens' linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo's position on same-sex marriage. Mr. Ayanbadejo faced attack from a Maryland legislator for having the temerity to exercise his First Amendment rights to support a political issue.
Mr. Kluwe's letter is a lovely mixture of high language and vernacular. It's worth a read. My favorite bit:

I can assure you that gay people getting married will have zero effect on your life. They won't come into your house and steal your children. They won't magically turn you into a lustful cockmonster. They won't even overthrow the government in an orgy of hedonistic debauchery because all of a sudden they have the same legal rights as the other 90 percent of our population—rights like Social Security benefits, child care tax credits, Family and Medical Leave to take care of loved ones, and COBRA healthcare for spouses and children. You know what having these rights will make gays? Full-fledged American citizens just like everyone else, with the freedom to pursue happiness and all that entails. Do the civil-rights struggles of the past 200 years mean absolutely nothing to you?Bravo, Mr. Kluwe. Now, would you and Mr. Ayanbadejo please go play for some other teams, so I can go back to hating your employers?
