...but not, of course, her own. Australian Gina Rinehart attacked the performance of the Australian economy and "said Africans willing to work for $2 a day should be an inspiration."

Rinehart makes roughly A$600 (£393) a second, according to the BBC.

From what I could tell (on a brief pass through and overheard comments), Chicon's con suite was a pretty doggone good place for people to unwind. Too much to do, so my only trip there was to grab a soda, briefly skip through the Art Show (looking at a painting Mike was thinking of bidding on) during the reception, then dash back out. From what I could see, the con suite was clean, well-used, and filled with socializing people. Finestkind.

---

Only program I saw was my own, so can't judge beyond that for how they came out. The three items may have had potential, but participant list was weird, and precis were not useful. Made for awkwardness, especially when the first panel's moderator didn't come to the convention. (I took the job, since my knowledge base was weakest. But there was no clear pattern for where the item should go, and the two people who had a sense of what they wanted to talk about were about 179° apart in topic choices.)

---

Still a pretty good space for a Worldcon. Wish I'd been in the same tower as the convention, but it was still closer than when a detached convention center is involved. Smoking area outside had benches, adequate numbers of ashtrays, and was quite pleasant. Found myself annoyed when non-smokers monopolized the benches. Wanted to say, "Hey, we're out here 'cuz you all insisted we can't be in there. Go find your own doggone bench." Didn't say it. :-)

---

Glad to be back in my own bed...hotel bed was *not* comfortable.

---

Yesterday, I said dealers room was mostly an obstacle. But that was just 'cuz it was between where I needed to go and the escalators. Don't imagine this means there were no shopping opportunities.

Did tell Mike not to buy the $10K opal jewelry. Heh. Kind of him to mention it.

---

Found the Friday business meeting quite relaxed and amusing (except, alas, for one former Worldcon's presentation).

---

Didn't make it to the Sunday business meeting and wasn't in the old pharts photo, 'cuz needed to set up and open sales for Loncon 3 memberships. Figured they knew what I looked like, and they could always Photoshop in a louse with a circle/slash over the top. Missed the "kinging" of Don on Sunday, but saw it on video last night. Hehehe.

---

Man, those Hugo award trophies were pretty. Well done!

---

Someone out in the smoking section said he thought every fan should strive to be a Hugo Award winner. "Not me," I replied. "There is no Hugo Award for being a wise ass, and I'd fight against it if it got to the business meeting."

---

Still tired. Might be over the tired by Sunday or so. Wish I could have brought about 80 or 90 people home, put them in storage, and spent time when we all had the energy. Then again, that's what Smofcon's for.
