Years ago, a "letter" purporting to be from a student applying to a high-end college (variously Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and so on) was circulating and making us all giggle. It noted that, among other special activities, the prospective student engaged in "full-contact origami."

Today's college hopeful is going even further overboard...and the Boston Globe online has pictures of some of the more creative gimmics.

Oh -- and the Globe also reports admission office reactions: Gimmicks don't help you get into college.
