Reaching the end of Walter Jon Williams' book This is Not a Game, it became apparent that I was sneakier than Walter is. I thought the presence of Heinlein's Double Star at one point in the story (one of the main characters has it in his hotel cabaña) would signal a different sort of ending...involving the Charlie character and a double-identity or stand-in...with a soupçon of additional betrayal and intrigue. (I fully expected that Charlie was still alive, that someone else had died in that hotel room, and that he'd show up to mess up Dagmar at the end.)

Still, it was a fun read, but the first third of the book was, I thought, the best part of it.
