The man at the car wash probably doesn't think he's a bigot.

But the combination of his bumper sticker (carefully attached to the inside of the sport-ute so that it wouldn't sully his truck's finish) that read "A village in Kenya is missing its idiot" and his very careful tipping of the white, male supervisor of the Hispanic car wash crew was a pretty good hint.

Mister? President Obama is not from Kenya. He's from Chicago. But you like to point out the Kenya connection because that seems safer to you than just coming out and saying, "Black guy in White House! Oh, noooo!"

And there are tip boxes in two locations at the car wash so that you can leave money for the brown people without, you know, touching them. Instead, you walked out of your way to give money to the white guy who, you'd be dismayed to know, waited until you left and then walked over and put the money in the tip box (because he likes and values his brown employees).

Don't *have* to tip them...but when a crew of 7 descend on your car and clean the hell out of it, they often *deserve* a tip or three. Pretty standard practice at the inside/outside/wonderful car washes - this is like getting the car detailed, but $80 cheaper. :-)

Interesting. I don't think we have anything between automated and detailed for car washes here. I don't remember if I tipped when I had the old car detailed a couple or three years ago.
