Her opponent, Todd Akin, claims that women who are victims of "legitimate rape" don't get pregnant from the act of rape. I am so appalled that it is making me physically ill.

Farking pompous, asinine, small minded, patriarchal ass with delusions of grandeur.

As The Caucus at The New York Times reports,
Comments by Representative Todd Akin, a Republican running to unseat Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri, are drawing condemnation after he asserted that victims of “a legitimate rape” have biological mechanisms to prevent pregnancy.

“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” Mr. Akin told KTVI-TV of St. Louis in an interview that was broadcast on Sunday.

The comments drew a sharp rebuke on Sunday from Senator McCaskill, who is in a tough fight against the Republican candidate.

“It is beyond comprehension that someone can be so ignorant about the emotional and physical trauma brought on by rape,” the senator said in a statement. “The ideas that Todd Akin has expressed about the serious crime of rape and the impact on its victims are offensive.”
Akin later released a written statement backing away from his televised remarks. Whoop di do.

It's all some Doctor's fault...

Must be them intelligent design ones...

I think he's made the statement before; seems like he might not be the brightest bulb.

I'll of course vote for McCaskill. Lamentably, even tho' she drew her preferred opponent after the primary, she's still likely to lose to him. Polls showed her trailing all three GOPers running in the primary; just trailing Akin by a smaller margin than the other two.

As is about everyone else with an IQ above 50, I'm appalled (stunned!) by Akin's stupidity. Even worse for me, he's likely to end up MY senator. So Senator Stupid will join Senator Corrupt in D.C. as the contingent from Missouri.

Appalling as his statement is, the bright side is that for once, Democratic strategy might pay off. The Dems reportedly spent over $1.5 million trying to help Akin win his three-way primary because he was the most conservative and most unpredictable candidate in the Republican race. (Here's an especially funky campaign ad - I dare you to parse the first sentence: "America was founded on the unique vision that our creator gave us life, the foundation of freedom, liberty, to speak as you choose and own what you earn, and the pursuit of happiness, the call to fully and courageously live the dream God puts in our hearts")
