I have long suspected that I'm not very civilized

Looking at the UN rape reporting statistics today (because of yet another highly publicized crime against a woman in India this week), I pondered.

Mike: "What's wrong? You look upset."

Me: "I'm trying to decide...if I were raped, would I kill my attacker some time after that?"

[Pause.]

Me: "Yes. Yes, I would."

Mike: "You could just [insert general damaging here] him."

Me: "No. Never leave your enemy alive but damaged." [James Bond taught me *that*.] "I'd just kill him."

I agree - leaving them damaged will just give them an excuse to be violent at you again.

Seems very civilized to me...

But then I'm another woman, and I appreciate that you'd be eliminating one more rapist's chance to get at me.

I will return the favor should I ever, ghod forbid, be put into the same situation.
