More thoughts on the Inaugural Parade
Jan. 21st, 2013 05:41 pmWhat we would not have seen 40 years ago (besides the black president, of course): women in all of the military bands, color guards, and marching groups. Women astronauts. Women mounted police officers. Women of all colors and ages.
Yeah. Like that. Living in the future's a fine, fine thing.

on 2013-01-21 11:12 pm (UTC)We drive past Seneca Falls every year en route to Ohio. In the summer, I try to stop...make my pilgrimage to suffrage, and all that it means to me, my sisters, my mother, my nieces that those women fought so hard.
Lucy Stone is one of my great heroes - born here, studied at Oberlin College (a scant 15 miles from where I grew up), and one of the most influential women in the suffrage movement.
When I vote, I think of her.
