I once had a student who insisted on calling me “Mrs.”...

My name is Deb. If that’s too hard, they can call me “Dr. Geisler” or “Professor Geisler.” And “Dr. Deb” sounds idiotic. I had a boss who insisted on being called “Dr. Bob,” and I found that fatuous and annoying.

Unless I'm presiding over the WSFS Business Meeting and you rise to speak (in which case you are "Dr. Geisler"), you're "Deb" to me, and I'm glad to be your friend. (And a fellow member of a relatively difficult-and-expensive-to-join club.)

Very good point.
