...but somebody stole the bridge.

Right. Bridge thieves. Sure.

Well, actually, that's what happened in a small Russian town.
Russian police are hunting scrap metal thieves who stole a 200-tonne metal bridge in a night-time raid.

The bridge in Khabarovsk in eastern Russia vanished overnight and was part of the only road leading to a local heating plant.

Now staff at the plant have to find alternative routes to work.

This is an old, and rather amusing tradition the Russians have.

Years ago, one of the newer models of their main combat tank broke down in an East German town while the unit was out on field exercises. By the end of the day, the crew had sold the thing off for drinking money, and persons "unknown" drove off with it.

Within the next couple of months, the hapless crew found itself slightly dead and the tank was never found by East German or Soviet personnel.

Exactly who bought the tank was never discovered, although it was suggested that some of the people in the village were actually in the employed by some US agency that was known by three letters.

The Army intel community used to refer to this as the AND school of Intelligence. ("Ain't Nailed Down")

In Russia, when they say they have a bridge to sell you, they may be telling the truth!
