I'm not sure why we bother

The Denvention3 facilities team has been agonizing over phrasing of hotel reservation information (the pages go live this morning...10 a.m. Mountain time) for our many properties near the Colorado Convention Center this August. We have limited numbers of some kinds of rooms, and we want to make sure that people have all of the information they need to make their bookings smoothly.

And I wonder (cynical, much?) if people will actually read what we have worked so hard to write...or if they'll just blindly try to make reservations we've told them won't work...or book room types that won't suit their needs.

It will be hard enough to sort out the reservation problems before the con. I can hardly wait until the day arrives, and we get some family of 4 who didn't read the information...and arrives to discover that their mini-suite has one king-sized bed, one small couch, and no chance for a roll-away. Somebody's getting the bathtub.

Ain't we got fun?

The hotel form links are going up any minute now. Seriously. I'm awaiting one last teeny/tiny thing. All the forms worked (at least, they have worked).

I read the comments for the hotels I was interested in, including the ones where you couldn't get a rollaway for 2 double bed rooms (which will no doubt surprise those folks who don't read the small print). I thought it important to know what I was getting into.

Happily I have a reservtion and it wasn't too painful. Good job to everyone doing this!

Thank you very much for being so nice to us. :-) Not everyone has been, of course...and we've been trying to fix things with all of those different hotel booking systems all afternoon.

I understand the frustration when people keep asking the same questions that are clearly stated and explained in the FAQs. Over on the fan board for George, I continually link to various Denvention pages after explaining to yet another newbie why the rooms were being released on one particular day, and why we have memberships, not tickets, and why the price goes up as we near the start date.

We got a regency club room for a week, Monday to Monday, at the Hyatt. The Hyatt has smoking rooms and is closet to the CC, which we'll need, given George's tight schedules at WorldCon.

Heh. I've got to be in the Adam's Mark, but they have smoking rooms, too. Life is good.
