Who cares* what evidence the NOAA has to the contrary?

Science is all hooey anyway, right?

* Actually, I care. Me and my air conditioning bill. We care deeply.

...and the Old Spice Guy ad campaign was completed on Friday last. It was an amazing social media marketing campaign, and one I plan to explore with my graduate students in the Fall semester.

Nobody has managed such an engaging and charming social media marketing blitz before without annoying half of the 'net. But, as Mashable notes,
The team behind this amazingly well-run campaign managed to engage half of the Internet, and provoke almost unequivocally positive results from social media sites such as Reddit and Twitter. Hell, even the comments on YouTube were overwhelmingly positive — and that never happens. The Old Spice Twitter account accumulated tens of thousands of new followers and the YouTube videos amassed hundreds of thousands of views.
Analyzing this sucker will keep some of us busy for quite a while to come.

Here is the last, still snicker-worthy video done by Isaiah Mustafa, the sexy dude with the great towel.

A Chinese circus troupe (Shang Hai Acrobatic School) performing at the Circus Festival of Monaco included this incredible act using the "Russian barre." It's amazing enough, but the last stunt is just astounding.

We had tickets to see the Lowell Spinners baseball game tonight, so we headed up to the park with plenty of time to see the start of the game, slated for 7:35 p.m., and possibly get one of the free baseball caps given to the first 1,000 people in the park. The Spinners are a Class A Short-Season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, and they faced the Aberdeen Ironbirds (a Baltimore Orioles affiliate).

Unfortunately, the time printed on the tickets (and on the electronic receipt) for the game was wrong, so we got to the park after the supply of caps was depleted. Fortunately, they were not out of hot dogs (although what I really wanted was a corn dog -- yes, they're disgusting), and our seats were pretty good (there aren't really bad seats in this little park).

Also fortunately, we both had umbrellas. Here is our damp saga... )

We have more tix for Spinners games, seeing them face the State College Spikes and the Vermont Lake Monsters. Love the team names! :-)
